Purpose
The CLE Committee is responsible for organizing, hosting, and promoting timely and relevant continuing legal education programs of interest to Florida environmental and land use law practitioners, while prioritizing the quality of the CLE content, accessibility, and diversity.
Goals/Duties/Responsibilities
- Plan and coordinate the Section’s CLE calendar for the current and the upcoming fiscal years (18 to 24 months), including calendar dates, topics, speakers, moderators, and program types. Maintain flexibility to address timely topics on an expedited basis when appropriate. The current annual goal is to offer at least 10 webinars (with some being offered at no charge), to host an in-person ELULS Update (typically a full day), and to co-host an in-person event in conjunction with the Administrative Law Section (typically a full day).
- Seek certification credit (e.g., City, County, Local Government; State and Federal General; and Administrative Practice) for CLEs to the greatest extent possible. This will be included in the planning materials for each proposed program.
- Ensure that at least one webinar each fiscal year is eligible for one technology credit and that another is eligible for one ethics credit. Also, ensure that each day-long, in-person event qualifies for one technology credit and one ethics credit.
- Assist the Section’s Liaison (Cheri Wright) with advertising planned in-person and live CLE events and aftermarket CLE products (which include CDs/DVDs, podcasts, and on-demand viewing) via email, social media, In-Reach, and updates to ELULS website in a timely and efficient manner.
- Prepare CLE Committee meeting minutes, submit a written status report for ELULS Executive Council Meetings to the Section’s Liaison prior the meeting, and have at least one person from the CLE Committee attend each ELULS Executive Council Meeting to make an oral presentation and answer questions (typically the Chair).
- Prepare and utilize instructions for developing and hosting in-person, live, and recorded CLE presentations and events that are to be used for proposals by committee members. This document will include deadlines and help ensure consistency in the Section’s programming. This document will also provide backup information to explain the different types of CLE programing, technologies available, how presentations should be made, the extent to which written materials are needed, information needed for advertising, and pricing options (as determined by the Executive Council). This template will be reviewed at the beginning of each fiscal year and updated as appropriate.
- Operate within the Section’s budgetary parameters to ensure appropriate Section income and expenditures related to CLE events. Make CLE content as widely accessible as possible within Committee budgetary constraints. The Committee will work with the Section’s Liaison (Cheri Wright) to prepare an annual update reflecting information about each CLE program offered during the prior year including attendance, pricing, revenues, expenses, and net

profits of each CLE program. This update shall be provided to the Executive Council by no later than May 31st of each year. The Committee will at the same time prepare and submit a budget request to ELULS Executive Council for the following fiscal year that includes proposed pricing options for webinars, after-market products, and in-person events, including separate pricing for students, law professors, government attorneys, attorneys working for non-profit organizations, and the judiciary, as appropriate. - Coordinate external financial sponsorship opportunities for CLE programs with the Sponsorship Committee.
- Co-organize, co-host, and promote programs with other Sections of the Bar, bar associations, law schools, and related professional organizations to reach a larger audience and improve networking opportunities for our members.
- Identify issues that may need to be brought to the attention of the Florida Bar CLE Committee through the ELULS representative on that Bar Committee.
- Attend monthly CLE Committee meetings, or as often as necessary for program planning purposes. Meetings may be conducted in person, telephonically, or via whatever means is reasonable and practical for facilitating participation by the majority of CLE Committee members.
